Wasn't a bad trade per se as Edmonton paid a high price, but we love Cam Talbot!

Worst trade for the Rangers? How about Gomez for McDonagh? Oh, wait...

Just seeing Brian Leetch "traded to Toronto" makes me get mad all over again. I know they were majorly retooling at that time & FINALLY dealing vets for youth but they got back garbage for a future Hall of famer who still could play at a pretty high level.

I would def vote for the Zubov trade with Pittsburgh in 95 as #1 here. Commander Sergei Zubov was what 23, 24? And he was coming off a couple great seasons & him paired with Leetch should have been a PP pair for another decade. Robataille never did much in 2 years here & Ulfie was actually pretty good, he was what he was. But Zubie was a special player, never should have been dealt.

Without any reasonable thinking in regards to need at the time of trade etc, but would anyone prefer to have Dubinsky & Anisimov over Nash for the last 3/4 years?

Meh, I'm not a huge Nash fan but in the summer of 2012 we needed a big gun scorer & Nash was available. I wouldn't call that one of the worst Ranger trades in the last 20-25 years.

We got very lucky Pavel Brendl turned into a bust & Jan Hlavac wasn't much or that Lindros deal would be a lot worse than it was. Kim Johnnson was the only true player we lost in that deal as he had some productive seasons following leaving NY. And speaking of KJ whatever happened to the ultimate troll "Crimsoninja'? He had the avatar of Kim sticking his tongue out, don't ask me how I remember that.

If Sather wasn't so firmly impanted up Dolan's butt, he would have been fired then for that disater of a trade.

How about the way it went down? A hotel room phone call, really Slats? After all that service & loyalty & great play from a legendary Ranger, he doesn't deserve better?

Kings Receive:
Ray Ferraro
Mattias Norstrom ( future Captain of Kings )
Ian Laperierre
Nathan Lafayette
4th round pick

Rangers get :
washed up Jari Kurri
washed up Marty McSorley
Shane Churla

Easily the worst trade ever for Rangers in my opinion. Jan---- you failing to mention that Norstrom became the youngest captain in Kings franchise history proves how forgetable and regretable this trade truly was. Truly awful.........

Sadly Churla, an extra nothing basically in that trade was the only guy that kind of had any impact w us. He was a tough old pro who gave 110% & actually contributed some in the 1997 playoffs when we had a depleted roster. McSorley did nothing & Kurri was already in retirement mode.

Good point. I will update the blog to note he was the youngest captain in LA history. Thought I had laid fairly well how bad this trade was. To me, Zuniga one was worst, as they never have truly replaced him. Hopefully Shattenkirk can do so.

Just imagine if the Rangers didn't deal Zubov & Nordstrom? That D in the late 90s could have been something like Leetch-Beuke (forced to retire after 99 due to concussions), Nordstrom-Zubov. Helluva top 4 there.

Further evidence why those two deals were so horrible and the lack of patience shown by the organization sticks out like a sore thumb.

We've talked before on here, certainly about the 95/96 deals. The Rangers got pushed around by a bigger Flyers team who seemed to be on the verge of a dominant team in those years & also the Devils who were fairly big & won that 95 Cup. But by bulking up we lost speed, finesse & youth & of course that all cost us in the 96 2nd round vs a speedier Penguin team (who had Zubov & Nedved from us now).

In Gretzky's first year, if team had a healthy Karpovtsev and Sundstrom, they might have won. Two skilled players, not physical ones.

I actually loved the Lindros trade for the Rangers.

The Ryan Clowe trade was pretty bad though

And don't forget Kovalev who was lost for that year in January with a ACL injury.

Did you mean Kovalev?
